To participate in the program, you must meet the following requirements:
Availability to go for at least 12 months
High school diploma
At least 200 hours of experience with children
Intermediate level English or higher
Submission of a Criminal Record Certificate
Valid passport
Good physical and mental health
Personal/work references
When you are matched with a Host Family, you will receive all the necessary documents from Celtic ChildCare to apply for the J-1 visa.
The J-1 visa allows you to stay in the USA for 13 months, structured as follows:
12 months of the program
1-month Grace Period to travel in the United States
After the first year, you can request an extension of 6, 9, or 12 months.
maximum 10 hours per day
maximum 45 hours per week
minimum 1.5 days free per week
at least 1 full weekend per month
The minimum weekly compensation for the USA Au Pair program is established based on a formula that calculates the federal minimum wage minus a board and lodging allowance, which corresponds to:
paid directly by the Host Family.
Plus:
Upon arrival in the United States, Au Pairs will receive up to $500 from host families to spend on an academic course
for each 12-month stay (pro-rated for periods shorter than 12 months)
2 days off per week
1 full weekend off per month
