Living a year in Ireland was the best experience I could have had!
On the first day there someone told me ‘what is different is neither beautiful nor ugly, it is different,’ and this phrase accompanied me throughout the rest of my experience.
When I left I did not know what to expect, I had never been to Ireland or even to a host family, but I was very open and curious to welcome all that would come, and very soon I fell in love with both Ireland and the people I met there, created many memories and made friendships that I still carry with me today.
Life in a host family may not always be easy, you become part of a new reality that will become your new home and you have to get used to it, but my host family welcomed me with open arms from day one and for that I cannot thank them enough.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO EXPERIENCE AN ACADEMIC YEAR IN IRELAND?
Ireland welcomes you with its wonderful green landscapes where you can fully meet Irish culture with all its curiosities. You will have an unforgettable experience, meet lots of new friends from all over the world and learn English at the same time.
Ireland is a British island rich in history, charm and fantastic natural landscapes, all waiting to be discovered. It offers long sandy beaches, sheer cliffs, rolling hills and quaint villages. Irish people are cheerful, helpful and families welcome exchange students with great affection. Families usually prefer to live in quiet, green areas, but well connected to the city.
Ireland is a very popular destination for students as it is rich in tradition, folklore and is a very friendly and safe environment, suitable for students who want to have an experience abroad. In addition, education is very important to the Irish, so students will benefit from an education of a certain standard with schools of excellence.
THE PROGRAM
This programme allows you to attend (up to) one school year at a local school in Kerry, Munster, in the south of Ireland, where you will live with a previously selected host family.
During this experience you will have the opportunity to live like a local student, attend a local high school and all its sports clubs and countless activities, organised by the school and beyond. Extra cultural visits can be organised during holidays and weekends. All this while being in close contact with both local Irish students and other students from all over the world who, like you, have decided to embark on this fantastic and memorable experience!
The academic year programme is for boys and girls aged 13-18 who want to have an experience away from home that will enable them to learn or greatly improve their level of English, meet peers from all over the world, immerse themselves in a different culture and discover new places.
I, Elizabeth Lenihan, director of Celtic Childcare, was born there, and I visit Kerry and the school very often, where the agency I work with is located and I am in close contact on a daily basis. In additional, the students will be regularly followed and assisted by our agency, through visits and calls with the local director.
THE IRISH SCHOOL
The classes are very small, usually consisting of 17 students. Maths and English are compulsory subjects and then you have the choice of six other subjects such as languages, economics, science, computer science, etc…
Irish schools then also offer the opportunity to do countless sports and recreational and extracurricular activities, thanks to the presence of numerous clubs in which children can participate (cooking, art, dance, music, theatre etc….).
All Irish schools provide a compulsory uniform that can be purchased locally.
