Au-Pair: an adventure for a new you

An Au-pair forum

Hi! Let me introduce myself: I’m V., a girl who, like you, spent a period of her life abroad working as an au pair. Through this blog, I have the chance to express myself openly and share the story of my adventure. They were nine truly intense months that I remember with great pleasure, even though a few years have passed now. I’m still in touch with my host family—so much so that at least twice a year I hop on a plane to Romsey, a small town in Hampshire, England. A part of my heart stayed there, and every now and then I have to go back and embrace it.
My task will be to write for you every week!

– An article will be published every week, specifically on Thursdays, covering a wide range of topics; I would be really happy to tackle subjects suggested by you to make things even more interesting for our audience.
– A quick and easy way to get in touch with me is by sending a private message. I’ll be very quick to reply. Here is the address: info@celticchildcare.com  or by leaving a comment, and in that case, I will contact you myself.
– There is only one rule: feel free to express your ideas with total peace of mind.

The idea of writing to you directly excites me so much because my goal is to talk openly with you about the journey you have bravely undertaken. Here I am, as a friend, ready to give advice, answer your questions, and suggest simple activities for the kids, but also to encourage you to travel as much as possible. I’d like to remain a bit of a mystery and not reveal everything about my personality, but if I did that, our relationship would be too detached and abstract.

Fun facts about V.

I’m a dreamer and I believe a lot in imagination; I trust the people around me. I love exploring, getting to know different cultures, and reading anywhere—especially classic English literature. I speak English, Portuguese, and Spanish, but I’d like to learn more languages to communicate with people in remote corners of the world. I studied Greek and Latin in the past. I’m crazy about cats of all kinds, especially my three furry loves. I like children and I enjoy tutoring them. I’m a citizen of the world—that’s how I define myself—a wanderlust soul because as soon as I can, I set off with my suitcase to discover something. That “something” isn’t anything specific, but wandering through new lands fulfills me. I’m also very lazy: in fact, when I have free time, I spend hours and hours watching TV series. I have many ideas, I’m creative and enthusiastic about life: every day I come up with something to do, something new that I might like. I don’t have a fixed place in the world yet—I’m still young—but I’d love the chance to change jobs every day: I’d like to be a doctor, a writer, an investigator, an adventurous merchant, or even a vet. We’ll see what the future holds for me. I hope for a lot of happiness.

Memories of the experience.

I decided to start this journey and communicate with you based on my own personal experience; in fact, when I was an au pair, I was often overwhelmed by all sorts of questions, often because I was in another country, far from home, my friends, and my family. Luckily, I had an extraordinary host family who loved me like a daughter. I fondly remember the intense afternoons playing with the two little rascals who brightened my days, the day trips, the holiday all together in Cornwall, the gifts we exchanged, the meals cooked on Sunday mornings, and the bedtime stories. I haven’t forgotten anything from that time and I truly believe that such a powerful and constructive experience can somehow improve you and bring so many benefits. That’s exactly what happened: besides forming a truly unique bond, I learned the language, I traveled, I built solid friendships, and above all, I found myself independent and free. I think this description might reflect the personality of each and every one of you.

The Articles: topics and ideas we’ll cover.

The articles will cover various topics such as the desire to travel, discovering new and interesting places in the UK, fun facts, food, holidays, games and creative activities for children, interesting ideas for free time, history and culture, or topics chosen by you. It’s a sort of forum where we can share our ideas on important issues we have in common.
The first article will focus on possible activities for the month of October, not just with your kids during babysitting days, but also with your group of friends. It’s lovely to spend days outdoors at this time of year, especially to enjoy the surrounding landscape; the colors of the leaves, the biting breeze, nature slowly preparing for winter, and the cold reaching us all give a sense of serenity and magic. Everything changes, just like we do. Stronger, more confident, and more aware of our future! Being an au pair isn’t easy, I know; there are often moments of discouragement and loneliness, but then, once you get through the hard part, the world seems wonderful.

Let’s get to know each other:

To everyone reading, I’d like to ask you to get in touch with me right away by sending an email to: info@celticchildcare.com : I would really love for you to tell me about your experience! But before you do… describe yourself with 5 adjectives! I’m waiting for you, girls!!
