AN
AU-PAIR is expected to work 4-5 hours a day (30 hours
weekly) taking care of the child/children. They are allowed to attend
Language school each day as they will have most of the day free, you
are required very little childcare experience for this job, as it mainly
involves speaking English(or otherwise) and playing with the children.
- AGE Au pairs shall not be younger that 17 and not
be older than 30 years of age. We would expect you to be honest, reliable
and of good moral character. Your personality should be adaptable,
open to new experiences and willing to adjust to a different way of
life.
- CONTACT LISTS The au-pair agency shall provide
au pairs with a contact list, including the name and telephone number
of other au pairs in their host country and consulates or embassies.
- DURATION An au pair stay shall not exceed one year.
- DUTIES In addition to childcare, au pairs may be
asked to perform day-to-day duties in the household (i.e., light housework).
Au pairs should not be required to do heavy-duty chores. You will
not be treated as a domestic servant, your principal duties will be
caring for the children and all aspects of childcare that involves,
bathing, dressing, mealtimes, care for their well-being and safety
when out-doors, daily routine for their bedroom and ironing their
clothes, playing, teaching them English. You are also expected to
help with light chores (filling /emptying the dishwasher, setting
the table if eating with the family) mainly giving the family a hand
when needed. Please keep your own room always in order, as expected.
Babysitting in the evenings may be requested by your family which
can be up to 3 evenings this is a part of your job and you will not
be paid for this unless you are doing more than 3 evenings babysitting,
but you will have at least three evenings free to yourself. One and
a half full days free per week, two weeks paid holiday for every 6
months stay which are usually taken by the girl if she wants to return
home at Christmas or whenever is suitable to you and the family. The
family will pay for your flight
The terms and conditions, such as weekly allowance, free leisure time,
language classes available, daily duties and chores will be agreed
to by both parties before the contract is signed between the agency
and the family.
- FREE TIME Au pairs shall be granted at one and
a half to 2 days off per week
- HOLIDAYS Host families shall grant au pairs ten
days paid vacation for every six months of their stay.
- LANGUAGE COURSES Au pairs shall have the opportunity
to attend language courses.
- MEDICAL INSURANCE Au pairs shall be covered by
medical insurance either paid for by themselves or the host family.
An E111 form is necessary for all medical treatment in Europe, this
is available at any health centre, this is given only to EU country
members.
- NOTICE In order to terminate the au pair agreement,
au pairs and host families shall give four week’s notice, except
in the cases of gross misconduct.
- ROOM AND BOARD AND POCKET MONEY Au pairs shall
receive, free room and board as well as weekly (or monthly) pocket
money.
Host families will pay extra money if they have to babysit for more
than 3 nights per week. Or if they are required to do extra hours
of work. The minimum weekly wage for this is 65Euro. You will be expected
to behave in a responsible/reliable way in your new home. You will
be living as a member of the family and should therefore treat your
new family with the same respect as your parents at home. You will
be expected to return at night at a reasonable hour, nor invite friends
to your room without permission, nor use the telephone to call home
without reversing the charge or seeking direct permission from your
host family.
