ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSES IN
ROME
The Language School is located in the central Aventino district, near
Pyramid, the baths of Caracalla and the Coliseum (Rome centre). The
neighbourhood is easy reached by bus and metro.
THE TEACHING STAFF
The teachers are highly qualified and experts in teaching Italian as
a foreign language. They have all had extensive training and considerable
teaching experience with foreign students.
They all can speak at least two other major languages. This means they
have a better understanding of the different problems that arise in
the classroom. Our Italian courses are designed to fit your needs and
therefore are highly personalised. You can start at any time of the
year.
After a short aptitude test, we develop a program for you that suits
your needs. The schedule can be flexible, ensuring that you don’t
miss any lessons.
The lessons include grammar, reading passages exercises and conversation
and utilze a variety of teaching aids including various grammar books,
cassette tapes, poetry, songs, stories, current news and events and
incidents from your daily life. For those who are beginninners with
little knowledge of the Italian language, we reccomend a short intensive
course to start with. This course gives you a foundation in practical
Italian for everyday use. Even after successful completion of Advanced
Level, Intermediate Language school is available to you for special
advanced courses or further conversation lessons.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
In addition to Italian language courses, the school organises a series
of activities to give you an opportunity to learn more about Italy and
its culture. These programs vary according to the wishes and requirements
of the students and can be modified at anytime during the year.
EXCURSIONS
Once a month, students can participate in an excursion to places of
interest. The cost is paid individually and depends upon the places
visited and the size of the group.
SPECIAL LECTURES
Lectures with guest speakers are organised throughout the year on such
topics as literature, arts, history and other areas of interest to students.
LIBRARY
Students may use the school library for reference, light reading or
serious reserch.

Students gather to watch an Italian movie followed by discussion and
language pratice.

Celtic Childcare has an Au Pair placement department. A selected family
will offer you board, lodging and pocket money. Call us to find out

ACCOMODATION
Upon request the school can reserve rooms for the students for the duration
of the course. Accomodation can be arranged as follows: room in a private
home, room in “pensione”, room in a hotel.
- BASIC LEVEL
16 lessons of 2 hours each: This course is for those who have a little
or no knowledge of the Italian language. You will learn the basics
of Italian grammar ( basic vocabulary, verb conjugation, the present
simple, past and future tenses, pronouns, adjectives ) and be able
to express yourself simply in daily conversation, reading and writing.
In addition, there is time during the course to discuss Italian culture
and way of life.
- INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
16 lessons of 2 hours each: This level is for those who already have
a basic knowledge of the Italian language and want to enlarge their
vocabulary and learn more complex structures ( conditional, passive,
subjunctive and imperative verb forms ). With these structures, you
will be able to understand and express yourself in Italian in a sufficiently
precise manner.
- ADVANCED LEVEL
16 lessons of 2 hours each: At this level, you are able to perfect
and widen your use of idiomatic expressions, syntax and oral comprehension
and to acquaint yourself more fully with Italian culture and way of
life.
Special advanced and full immersion courses ( 3-5-10 days ) are available.
They are tailored to suit individual needs.
All levels start when it suits you.
CERTIFICATE
At the end of each Level, upon successful completion of a proficiency
exam, Intermediate School issues a certificate of proficiency. Also,
the 3rd University of Rome allows students to take the exam ( Certificato
di Italiano )upon payment of an exam fee. Intermediate prepares students
for this examinatios which are held once in a year.
GENERAL ENROLMENT CONDITIONS
Enrolment: A deposit of € 50,00 must be paid by postal order made
out to the language school. Please include a photocopy of the receipt
with your enrolment form.
Cancellation: Students unable to attend a course will be
given a refund af the deposit, provided they inform us at least 30 days
in advance of the starting date. No refund can be obtained if notice
is not received before this date.
Balance of fees: The balance due is to be paid at the start of the
course and is not refundable.
ALL CLASSES ARE ORGANISED IN SMALL GROUPES.
